After you have watched my slideshow you can continue listening to Bolero while reading my Travelogue below and if you think creating the above was easy remember that I started school in1951, a tad before these-here doodad machines were invented. The pictures, in the main, are the same above and below.

I found two juvenile Black Swans in a billabong about 2 kilometres south of camp. I presume they are the offspring of a pair of Swans that I regularly saw when I was camped here back in May. The parents were nowhere to be seen so they must have left. A few days after coming across the juveniles they turned up at our camp and kept us company for the remainder of the time we were there. I must have taken 2 or 3 hundred photos but whittled it down. There will be few photos further down the page. Note that the pair have not got their adult black and white plumage yet and are a grey and brown colour.

We saw males transferring food from their crop to their females many many times as this pair had a nest only a few feet from our caravan door and the next limb along from the Zebra Finch pair.

After days of effort on the part of the male Finch the female rejected his efforts as not good enough and shot through. Interestingly he didn't seem to be building a nests as such but was more concerned with blocking off the entrance and leaving a small hole as an entrance. He must have carted in at least 50 pieces of grass and flowers stalks. Whatever his efforts were rejected.

Another couple checking the accommodation potential in a hollow branch in the same tree as the Finches and the other Budgie family. They moved in and built a nest.

The brown on some of the Ibis is staining or maybe it is the colouring of juveniles?

Not only did these two species roost together they also fished together along with Pelicans and darters.

These two juveniles got quite used to us after a week or so and came close to our camp. One day they were practicing their flying and showing off right in front of our camp. As they flew past only a few feet in front of us they managed to "clip wings" which resulted in one of them falling straight down about 15 ft but fortunately it was water the bird hit with a thud. No harm done apart from a shattered ego.

These birds proved impossible to approach on foot and I never got anywhere near close enough to take a photo before they dashed away in to hiding. On the kayak though was totally different and so long as we approached quietly and slowly we were able to get quite close.
Photos 1242 to 1282 were all taken from the kayak as were the next three.

This photo was taken in May from a long distance with my day to day lens. I now presume that they spent their time in the billabong two kms south, which I didn't know of in May.
I have just reviewed my photos taken in May and there are heaps I can choose from for a future Travelogue.
