October 15th, 2015. I have now gone back to the future and returned to where I left off at the end of Bilung Pool #9. After leaving Bilung Pool we headed south on the Carnarvon Mullewa Road. Ten kms south is the Wooramel River where we stopped for awhile to admire the view. The river has cut a gorge through the terrain at this point. We drove a couple of kms east along the top of the gorge along a rough track and spent an hour or so walking about at the top as getting down to the river, all though not impossible, would have been difficult. There are permanent pools of water lined with broken down River Gums. The trees don't seem to grow much past the age of ten years before a mighty flood tears them to pieces as there are no big mature trees.

There was a pair sitting in the tree but by the time I pointed my camera at them one had risen in to the air. Never mind they flew around and around directly above us for a few minutes.

This Heron and her nest have featured three times. First when she was sitting on an egg, second when the chick had hatched and the eggshell was on the ground and now with the chick nearly as big as Mum. You will need to look carefully. The chick is on the right and much shorter than Mum.

A gnamma hole is a natural hole caused by acids eroding/leaching away the solid rock, in this case it is granite. After rains, if water collects in them, they were/are an important source of water to both aborigines and early explorers. We have used water out of many a gnamma hole including for drinking on occasion, but bigger gnamma holes than this one.

WA
rail lines are owned by a multi national company, Brookfield, based in
Bermuda. No sooner did the company take over the system in 2013 and the the
company closed-down significant sections of wheatbelt railways much to the dismay of WA's wheat farmers.
